The Cambodian Center for Independent Media (CCIM) works to promote independent media, press freedom, freedom of expression, access to information and internet freedom. CCIM focuses on promoting and defending media freedom, freedom of expression, and access to information. CCIM is known for its efforts to support independent journalism and advocate for a vibrant media environment in Cambodia. Currently, CCIM focuses on 1) Citizen Journalists Network 2) Media Training 3) Media and Information Literacy Training and 4) Advocacy Efforts.
As part of our commitment to learning and accountability, we are seeking positions below:
- Advocacy & Campaign Coordination
- Support the development and execution of advocacy campaigns aligned with organizational goals
- Coordinate advocacy events, meetings, rallies, forums, and public awareness activities
- Leading and facilitate the events in which CCIM co-organize with other Cambodian civil society organizations
- Assist in mobilizing advocates, volunteers, and community partners
- Track campaign progress and outcomes
- Journalist Protection
- Monitor and analyze incident of journalists at risk, issues and events in Cambodia, such as trials or monitoring the cases related to journalists.
- Produce regular incident reports.
- Provide coordination to support journalists at risk to access legal and other supports
- Policy & Research Support
- Monitor relevant legislation, policies, and political developments
- Conduct research/lead and prepare briefs, fact sheets, talking points, and policy summaries
- Conduct survey or assessment related to press freedom and freedom of expression in Cambodia
- Support meetings with policymakers, government officials, and stakeholders
- Facilitate with international partners to conduce Fact-finding missions to document freedom of press or media may be necessary;
- Communication & Outreach
- Initiate drafting of advocacy statements on incidents and issues under the mandate of CCIM
- Assist with advocacy communications including emails, newsletters, social media, and action alerts
- Help develop messaging that aligns with policy goals and organizational values
- Coordinate Advocacy Materials and resources
- Stakeholder & Community Engagement
- Build and maintain effective relationships with local and international organizations and partners, including representing CCIM to external stakeholders in meetings and other events.
- Support grassroots organizing and community outreach efforts
- Respond to advocacy-related inquiries from the public and partners
- Facilitate meetings with NGOs both national, regional and international related to media issues, Freedom of Expression and Digital Rights
- Data, Reporting & Administration
- Prepare the annual advocacy plan for CCIM, with clear plan and indicator
- Maintain advocacy databases, contact lists, and tracking systems
- Collect and analyze data on advocacy activities and engagement
- Prepare reports, updates, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders
- Provide administrative support to advocacy leadership as needed
- Bachelor's Degree in political science, public policy, social work, communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Experience in advocacy for non-profits, advocacy campaigns or legislative processes for 3 to 5 years
- Strong understanding of Cambodia press freedom, media independence, rights to freedom of expression and access to information.
- Proficient in English language including in writing, listening and speaking
- Strong Leadership and interpersonal skills and ability to manage sensitive issues with various stakeholders while motivating others.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Passion for social change and the organization’s mission
- Strong organizational and coordination skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Relationship-building and collaboration
- Knowledge of grassroots organizing and coalition-building is a plus
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Able to work flexible hours such as overtime, on holiday or on weekend, and travel to the provinces and abroad for work.
- A passionate and energetic team member with a genuine interest in working to develop independent and professional media, promote human rights and democratic governance.
