GIZ is a federally owned enterprise and is supporting the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development.
The GIZ bilateral project “Sustainable Textile Industry in Cambodia II” (FABRIC Cambodia), funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), runs from November 2024 to October 2027. The project contributes to a more sustainable and responsible textile industry in Cambodia through a comprehensive, multi-stakeholder approach. The overall objective of Phase II is to strengthen the preparedness of the garment, footwear and textile (GFT) sectors for the sustainability requirements of international markets. This will be achieved through three interconnected outputs:
- Output 1: Relevant public institutions have used evidence-based instruments for policy development to address selected challenges in the sustainability of the garment industry.
- Output 2: The business environment for recycling waste from the garment industry in Cambodia has been strengthened.
- Output 3: The services offered by civil society initiatives to promote gender equality in the work and living environment of garment industry workers have been used by a larger target group.
The project collaborates with different levels of stakeholders across the supply chain and works on social, environmental, and cross-cutting topics including heat stress and waste management, women empowerment, human rights and environmental due diligence (HREDD), and regional exchange formats.
