Job Description

Cambodia is currently updating its National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) with financial support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and implementation support from UNDP. The country has demonstrated sustained commitment to biodiversity conservation over the past three decades. Since ratifying the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in 1995, Cambodia has developed and updated its NBSAP twice—first in 2002 and subsequently in 2016—aligning national priorities with the global Aichi Biodiversity Targets. These strategic frameworks have guided national conservation efforts by providing a structured direction for the protection of ecosystems, species, and genetic resources.

Following the adoption of the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM-GBF) in 2022, Cambodia has prepared its third NBSAP to align national actions with the global biodiversity targets for 2030 and contribute to the long-term vision of living in harmony with nature.

In parallel with the NBSAP update, Cambodia has prepared its Seventh National Report (7NR) to the CBD, in fulfilment of its reporting obligations under Article 26 of the Convention. Building on previous national reports, the 7NR presents Cambodia’s progress in implementing the CBD and the KM-GBF, assesses national targets and indicators, documents key achievements and challenges, and contributes to global monitoring of progress toward the 2030 biodiversity goals. The report also demonstrates alignment with relevant national legal and policy frameworks, including the Pentagonal Strategy Phase I, the Code on Environment and Natural Resources, the Circular Strategy on Environment, the Cambodia Sustainable Development Goals (CSDGs), the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement, and the Long-Term Strategy for Carbon Neutrality (LTS4CN).
