Job Description

The Khmer Ocean Life Project is a collaboration between the local NGO SAMAKY Organization and the UK non-profit organisation Khmer Ocean Life. Our mission is to promote the conservation of Cambodia’s marine ecosystems and marine megafauna through research, capacity building, outreach, and community collaboration. Job Responsibilities & Duties
  • Lead ecological surveys, such as land-based, boat-based, and acoustic surveys.
  • Conduct social science surveys, such as questionnaires.
  • Stranding response.
  • Report writing and dissemination of findings.
  • Data management.
  • Data analysis.
  • Contribute to publishing peer-reviewed research.
  • Project administration.
  • Liaise with community members and government officials.
  • Support existing and new stakeholder relationships.
  • Support the recruitment and onboarding of new team members and provide ongoing training and support to the team.
  • Supervise Khmer and international thesis students.
  • Uphold organisation values.
  • Other responsibilities as identified.
Job Requirements
Languages:
  • English - Fluent
  • Khmer - Fluent
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in science or a related field
Skills & Knowledge:General & Technical Skills
  • Fluency in English and Khmer (spoken and written)
  • Fieldwork, data analysis and strong writing skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Knowledge of marine science and conservation
  • Have published peer-reviewed research (desired but not essential)
  • Driver’s license (desired but not essential)
Soft Skills
  • Strong organisational, time-management, and communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team
  • Creativity, proactiveness, and willingness to contribute new ideas
  • Motivation to learn new skills and make a positive impact
  • Interest in Cambodia’s marine mammals
  • Ability to travel for fieldwork
