The Khmer Ocean Life Project is a collaboration between the local NGO SAMAKY Organization and the UK non-profit organisation Khmer Ocean Life. Our mission is to promote the conservation of Cambodia’s marine ecosystems and marine megafauna through research, capacity building, outreach, and community collaboration. - Lead ecological surveys, such as land-based, boat-based, and acoustic surveys.
- Conduct social science surveys, such as questionnaires.
- Stranding response.
- Report writing and dissemination of findings.
- Data management.
- Data analysis.
- Contribute to publishing peer-reviewed research.
- Project administration.
- Liaise with community members and government officials.
- Support existing and new stakeholder relationships.
- Support the recruitment and onboarding of new team members and provide ongoing training and support to the team.
- Supervise Khmer and international thesis students.
- Uphold organisation values.

- Khmer - Fluent
- Bachelor's Degree in science or a related field
- Fluency in English and Khmer (spoken and written)
- Fieldwork, data analysis and strong writing skills
- Computer literacy
- Knowledge of marine science and conservation
- Have published peer-reviewed research (desired but not essential)
- Driver’s license (desired but not essential)
- Strong organisational, time-management, and communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and in a team
- Creativity, proactiveness, and willingness to contribute new ideas
- Motivation to learn new skills and make a positive impact
- Interest in Cambodia’s marine mammals
- Ability to travel for fieldwork
