Job Description

The Khmer Ocean Life Project is a collaboration between the local NGO SAMAKY Organization and the UK non-profit organisation Khmer Ocean Life. Our mission is to promote the conservation of Cambodia’s marine mammals through research, capacity building, outreach, and community collaboration

Job Responsibilities & Duties
  • Assist in the implementation of the Cambodian Marine Mammal Bycatch and Stranding Network.
  • Assist with the implementation of ongoing bycatch mitigation trials.
  • Conduct social science surveys, such as questionnaires.
  • Report writing and dissemination of findings.
  • Data collection and entry.
  • Assist with project administration and finances.
  • Help liaise with community members and government officials.
  • Assist outreach and training events for fishers and fishing community members.
  • Support existing and new stakeholder relationships.
  • Uphold organisation values.
  • Other responsibilities as identified.
Job Requirements
Languages:
  • English - Basic is required
  • Khmer - Basic is required
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in science or a related field (desired but not essential)
Skills & Knowledge:General & Technical Skills
  • Fieldwork and data collection skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Interest in Cambodia’s marine mammals
  • Ability to travel for fieldwork
  • Fluency in English and Khmer (fluency desired, but basic is essential)
  • Driver’s license (desired but not essential)
Soft Skills
  • Strong organisational, time-management, and communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team
  • Creativity, proactiveness, and willingness to contribute new ideas
  • Motivation to learn new skills and make a positive impact
