Job Description

Sunrise Cambodia is a world-class charity working on the ground in Cambodia to give much-needed help to at-risk kids, struggling families and poor communities in some of the most poverty-stricken provinces of the country.

Sunrise Cambodia began in the early 1993s when a South Australian fifty-year old named Geraldine Cox began a small orphanage to care for the some of the orphaned grandchildren from Pol Pot’s regime. Unable to have her own children, Geraldine became “Mum to Many” as she took in street kids, orphans and the disabled to give them good food, a place to sleep, an education and lots of love.

Sunrise is seeking a qualified national candidate to fill the 2 positions of Marketing Coordinator and Social Worker Coordinator & Counsellor base in Kandal Province Office. For a detail of Job Description for this position, refer to file attached.

  • Social Worker Coordinator and Counsellor
Job Responsibilities & Duties
  • MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
  • Take part in designing annual implementation and budget plan
  • Manage child records and social work database; Ensure that all cases are documented, scanned and stored securely and in order at all times
  • Identify opportunities for new projects that meet gaps in service provision
  • Assist in hiring new staff as required
  • STUDENT COUNSELLING
  • Maintain good relations with all children of Sunrise Cambodia
  • Ensure children understand and obey all regulations of Sunrise Cambodia
  • Ensure the Child Committee program is running well
  • Collaborate with social workers to help students understand and overcome social or behavioural problems through counselling and group guidance lessons
  • Identify issues that affect school performance, such as poor classroom attendance rates, learning difficulties
  • Work with students to develop skills, such as organizational and time management abilities and effective study habits
  • Help students overcome personal issues that interfere with their academic development
  • Evaluate students’ abilities and interests through aptitude assessments, interviews, and individual planning
  • Develop an education profile for Sunrise students aged 15-17, identifying interests, goals, strengths and weaknesses to help them build a realistic and long-term career plan
  • Match students with opportunities outside of Sunrise that suit their career plan, skills and interests
  • Assist with choosing and applying for universities, life skills and training programs, financial aid, internships and apprenticeships
  • Implement an in-depth analysis of program drop-out rates to identify the most common root causes of children dropping out of school and develop solutions
  • MANAGEMENT
  • Managing our residential and outreach social workers
  • Offering help and counselling to social workers
  • Write annual evaluations for social workers
  • Report staff issues to management team
  • Collaborate with the Sponsorship Manager regarding all aspects of child sponsorship program
  • Oversee annual children profile updates to be sent to the sponsorship manager at the end of July
  • Accompany outreach social worker on visits to outreach children, integrated children and community families when required
  • Oversee outreach case management including counseling, family assessment for new referral and reintegration and following up cases after reintegration
  • Work closely with outreach social worker and relevant school, university and vocation training centers to address kids’ specific problems
  • Assist Outreach worker in undertaking post reunification follow up and provide report on education, safety, security, emotion, health and income, as per Sunrise policy and reunification policy
  • COMMUNICATION
  • Build a strong sense of teamwork among program staff
  • Maintain good relations and high-quality communication between the social work team and all departments including facility & residential care, community development and education
  • Work closely with relevant Project Coordinators, Program Managers, Sunrise sponsors and Sunrise staff and Management team
  • Attend weekly management meeting and monthly staff meetings at Sunrise as necessary
  • Timely response to requests from management
  • Attend bimonthly child committee meeting, and monthly houseparent meeting
  • Participate in weekly meeting with children every Thursday
  • Build and nurture effective working relationships with local authorities and other related agencies at province and community level
  • Establish positive working relationships with institutes of higher learning, businesses and training institutes to create opportunities for successful admission of Sunrise students
  • DEVELOPING EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
  • Educational programs to be developed in conjunction with education manager and/or social workers when time allows:
  • Arrange career workshops to help students search and apply for jobs, write résumés, and improve their interviewing skills
  • Work with other staff members to run workshops to teach students and school staff about specific topics, such as bullying, alcohol abuse, gambling, sex, etc
  • Organise workshops to prepare students for life outside of Sunrise including budgeting, finding housing, sharing a house, time management, dealing with work conflicts, etc
  • Prepare programs to help students learn job search skills, such as interviewing and networking
  • Assist in arranging guest speakers, field trips and university visits
  • Source opportunities and encourage students to participate in events such as public speaking, debates, workshops, conferences and short courses
  • REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Produce monthly and other reports including statistics and submit to the Assistant Operations Manager
  • Produce donor reports in English every 6 months
  • Submit monthly budget to the Finance Manager on 25th of the Month
  • Immediately report any serious incidents or other problems, including accidents, illness, injuries, abnormal sexual activity or abuse, fighting, or damaged or broken property. If management is not at the centre, telephone management as required
  • Ensure children at all times are protected from physical, emotional and sexual abuse, and immediately report any suspected abuse by children or staff
  • Protect the privacy and confidentiality of children by not disclosing any private information to others such as serious health problems, or other personal child information
  • Work as a team with the management at Kandal in order to facilitate activities
  • Perform other duties as requested by management
  • OTHER DUTIES
  • Proactively participate in the Staff Performance Appraisal process including the annual appraisal, midyear review and regular 1:1 meetings, ensuring that the Performance Appraisal process (including the paperwork) is an integral component of annual work plans and activities
  • Promote a safe and secure work environment; foster a culture of safety and security awareness and consistently follow all Sunrise Cambodia safety and security policies, procedures and directives
  • Uphold and promote Sunrise Cambodia’s commitment to Child Protection and the Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment Policy
  • Compliance with Sunrise Cambodia’s Financial, Personnel and Operational requirements policies and uphold high standards of honesty and integrity in personal conduct
Job Requirements
  • A degree in social work, school counselling or a related field
  • Advanced networking skills and established contacts within the higher education field
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Must have passion, empathy, sensitivity, patient and a good understanding of children and their needs
  • Problem solving and ability to work on a flexible working schedule
  • Experience in a similar role is highly desirable
  • Skills in creating a highly motivational work environment
  • Ability to set tasks and create priorities
  • Able to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
