EnergyLab Asia is an innovative not-for-profit organisation driving a fair and impactful transition to renewable energy in Southeast Asia. We were established in Cambodia in 2018 and are based in Phnom Penh. In 2024, we expanded our operations to Lao PDR and now work across Southeast Asia to advance clean energy solutions that benefit the entire region.
EnergyLab Asia is seeking two individual consultants for the roles of Writing Trainer and Publishing Editor, one based in Phnom Penh and one in Siem Reap, to support the think piece writing and publication component, as well as the professional competency training, of the Clean Energy Fellowship 2026 (CEF 2026).
The Clean Energy Fellowship (CEF) is EnergyLab Asia’s flagship program designed to equip early- and mid-career professionals from various sectors to become informed and active advocates for clean energy in Cambodia. The program features three key elements: clean energy and writing training, field visits to clean energy companies, and the publication of clean energy think pieces.
A capstone requirement of the program is for Fellows to write and publish a think piece. Each piece critically analyzes specific problems and solutions in the clean energy sector, weaving together evidence and the Fellows’ individual perspectives on Cambodia’s key clean energy priorities. With training and editorial support, Fellows will have the opportunity to publish their think piece in the next issue (see Generation Power: The Future of Clean Energy, Issue 02).
The program will be scaled up in 2026, with delivery in both Phnom Penh and Siem Reap to a cohort of about 25 Fellows in each location. This marks CEF’s first expansion beyond the capital, and professional development and project grants will be introduced as new components to broaden the program’s reach and deepen its impact. Training sessions in both locations will follow the same curriculum, which is currently being updated and refined to enhance its relevance and impact.
- Each consultant will deliver the following for the cohort where they are based (Phnom Penh or Siem Reap).
- Deliver three training sessions on think piece writing. The sessions will cover, among other topics, argumentation, evidence gathering, structuring, and editing.
- Deliver two training sessions on project management. These sessions aim to equip Fellows with the essential knowledge and tools to plan, implement, and monitor projects successfully, including project design, planning and budgeting, risk management, and reporting.
- Deliver one training session on communications. This session aims to strengthen Fellows’ confidence and capacity to communicate complex ideas clearly, engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, and enhance their ability to advocate for clean energy solutions across various contexts.
- Lead the editing of up to 25 think pieces to ensure they meet quality standards, are delivered on time, and are ready for publication in an edited volume. Each piece will undergo at least two rounds of editing involving the consultants, Fellows, and EnergyLab’s technical staff. Technical backstopping on clean energy topics will be provided by EnergyLab’s technical staff.
- All training content and supporting materials (including curriculum, lesson plans, presentation slide decks, handouts and exercises) will be provided and are ready for use, requiring only minimal adjustments from the consultant.
- Bachelor's Degree in or higher in journalism, development studies, education, communications, or a related field.
- At least of experience editing and publishing opinion pieces, policy briefs, think pieces, or analytical articles for print or digital platforms for 5 years
- Demonstrated experience delivering training or mentoring on writing, editing, or publication processes, particularly for early- to mid-career professionals or researchers.
- Excellent editing skills, with the ability to provide constructive, developmental feedback through multiple rounds of editing.
- Ability to work collaboratively with technical experts to ensure the accuracy and clarity of content.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Knowledge of project management fundamentals is an asset.
- Knowledge of the clean energy sector is an asset.
- Supportive of the clean energy transition.
- Enjoys building strategic relationships.
- Transparent, positive, humble, and adaptable.
- Collaborative working style.
