Job Description

The ‘Buddhism and Community Clean Energy Project,' running between April 2026 and March 2028, works with monastic communities to accelerate clean energy adoption in rural areas. The project supports capacity training for monastic communities and pagoda-led clean energy projects.

EnergyLab Asia is seeking a qualified consultant or a team of consultants to design and deliver a comprehensive Training of Trainers (ToT) curriculum on climate change and clean energy for Buddhism and Community Clean Energy Project.

The objective of the curriculum and the training is to strengthen monastic community members' understanding and knowledge of climate change and clean energy and their capacity to raise awareness on climate change and clean energy to surrounding communities.

Content development will be conducted remotely, with periodic in-person consultations with EnergyLab Asia's technical team in Phnom Penh, while the ToT will be delivered in person to selected representatives from participating pagodas in Tbong Khmum province, thereby requiring frequent travel to the province.

Job Responsibilities & Duties
  • Design content and training materials for a 2.5-day ToTs on climate change and clean energy for participating pagoda members, government partners, Buddhist organisations, and Buddhist institutions. The content may include, not limited to, the following modules:
  • Fundamentals of climate change
  • Causes and effects of climate change
  • Climate change mitigation, adaptation, and resilience
  • Climate change in Cambodia (impacts, relevant policies and commitment, etc.)
  • Introduction to clean energy
  • Clean energy, renewable energy, fossil fuels
  • Clean technologies (clean energy technologies, energy efficiency, electric mobilities, etc.)
  • Waste management (waste to energy)
  • Cambodia’s clean energy landscape
  • Cambodia’s energy transition progress, policies, barriers and opportunities
  • Rural electrification
  • Rural electrification landscape
  • Off-grid and decentralised technologies
  • Case studies/best practices of clean tech adoption in the community level
  • *May include the presentation from clean tech companies in Cambodia
  • Training skills (tactics, tips, etc.)
  • Deliver two sets of ToTs on ‘climate change and clean energy’, including pre-and post-assessments to evaluate the learning outcome of participants
  • One ToT session to be delivered in Phnom Penh, targeting staff from the government and Buddhist organisation partners
  • One ToT session to be delivered in the Tboung Khmum, targeting members of the selected pagodas
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in or Advanced degree in one or more of the following fields: energy, environmental science/policy, climate change, public policy, development studies, educational pedagogy, or related disciplines
Skills & Knowledge:General & Technical Skills
  • Substantial experience in education, curriculum development, and training delivery
  • Strong understanding of Buddhism and Buddhist education system in Cambodia
  • Strong knowledge of climate change, environment, and clean energy
  • Experience working in clean energy transition and climate change is a plus
Soft Skills
  • Excellent communication skills.
