CIS seeks experienced candidates for the position below:

Job Responsibilities & Duties
  • Cocreate required experiments with teachers based upon the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program SL and HL programs and Alberta Education Grades 6-12 Program of Study
  • Coordinate the department’s budget, lab timetables and resource orders
  • Carry out risk assessments for practical and technical activities; help to maintain a safe environment in the science laboratories
  • Maintain, repair and take inventory of lab equipment; manage stocks of chemicals and order more when necessary
  • Ensure equipment is properly cleaned after use and is stored safely; work with teachers to improve equipment
  • Take part in laboratory work during lessons when required and instructing small groups of students on safety and background knowledge
  • Budget resources in the Science Department
  • Communicate in English and Khmer with internal and external stakeholders to procure experiment supplies. (e.g. getting cow hearts from the market, ordering products from China, communicating with operations over gas usage, running the Science Department budget)
  • Run trials of experiments and demonstrations for pedagogical effectiveness and safety before use in classrooms
  • Create a list of curricularl aligned experiments for each class for future teachers so the development of laboratory experiments does not need to be repeated each year
Job Requirements
Skills & Knowledge:General & Technical Skills
  • Experience in laboratory science, education and/or as a lab technician preferred
  • Lab and lab safety experience with WHMIS and MSDS, or a willingness to participate in appropriate training.
  • Experience working with an international community with a diverse setting of students
  • Good ICT skills; working knowledge of the Google Suite
  • Approachable by students to answer technical scientific questions
  • Able to remain alert to dangerous situations while sitting, standing or walking for various lengths of time, and able to judge and evaluate evolving dynamics of individuals participating in laboratory activities to immediately assess their capabilities and threats to their safety
Soft Skills
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrates cultural competence and enjoys learning about new cultures
  • Brings a positive mindset, humility, integrity and a solutions-focussed attitude
  • Able to build and maintain relationships with multiple stakeholders
