Job Responsibilities & Duties
  • Teaching & Learning
  • Deliver high‑quality 1:1 and small-group instrumental or vocal lessons to students across a wide age and ability range.
  • Plan engaging, progressive lessons that support strong musical development and reflect best practice in instrumental pedagogy.
  • Adapt teaching approaches to meet individual student needs, including beginners, advanced performers, and students with SEND/EAL.
  • Prepare students for performances, internal assessments, school concerts, competitions, and public events.
  • Music Examinations & Progress Tracking
  • Prepare students for internationally recognised graded music examinations, such as ABRSM, Trinity, RockSchool, or equivalent.
  • Manage exam entries, ensure students are well-prepared, and communicate requirements to families.
  • Provide accurate, regular updates on student progress to the Director of Music, parents, and relevant staff.
  • Maintain attendance registers and records of repertoire, technical work, and assessment outcomes.
  • Contribution to the School’s Music Provision
  • Support and/or lead ensembles, choirs, bands, or instrumental groups where appropriate.
  • Assist with rehearsals, concerts, recitals, showcases, open days, assemblies, and whole‑school events.
  • Work collaboratively with the Music Department to enrich the school’s co‑curricular music programme.
  • Contribute ideas to expand music provision, develop performance opportunities, and raise the profile of Music across the school.
  • Professional Conduct & Safeguarding
  • Uphold the highest standards of professionalism, punctuality, and communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Follow all RGSPP safeguarding policies and attend mandatory training sessions.
  • Ensure that teaching spaces are used safely, instruments are handled appropriately, and health and safety expectations are met.
Job Requirements
Skills & Knowledge:General & Technical Skills
  • A recognised qualification in music performance, music education, or specialist instrumental/vocal training.
  • Proven experience delivering 1:1 and/or small‑group instrumental or vocal lessons to children and young people.
  • Experience preparing students for graded music examinations (ABRSM, Trinity, RockSchool, or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of progression, technique development, and age‑appropriate repertoire.
  • Ability to support students of differing abilities, including beginners and advanced performers.
  • Experience working within a British or international school context.
  • Experience supporting or leading ensembles, choirs, or performance groups.
  • Experience preparing students for concerts, competitions, or public performances.
  • Ability to teach more than one instrument, or teach both an instrument and voice.
  • Experience working with multilingual students and/or those with SEND.
