Job Description
La Plantation is a Cambodian company specializing in the production and sourcing of premium spices and agricultural products. We work closely with local farmers and rural communities to develop high-quality products while promoting sustainable agriculture and preserving Cambodia’s agricultural heritage.
Job Responsibilities & Duties
- Farmer Relationship Management: Manage and develop a network of farmers across several Cambodian provinces, building strong, long-term relationships based on trust and mutual benefit. Sign agreements with smallholder farmers and follow up on these agreements throughout the year. Ensure that contracted farmers comply with Fairtrade principles and good agricultural practices, and monitor hygiene and food safety measures in accordance with international standards.
- New Supplier Development: Travel extensively throughout Cambodia to identify, meet and assess new farmers, agricultural producers and potential suppliers.
- Product Sourcing: Discover new agricultural products, spices and raw materials that could expand La Plantation’s product range.
- Purchasing and Negotiation: Negotiate prices, quantities, quality standards and delivery conditions with farmers and suppliers.
- Field Visits: Regularly visit farms and rural communities to monitor production, understand farmers’ needs and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Market Intelligence: Identify emerging agricultural products, new sourcing opportunities and developments in Cambodia’s agricultural sector.
- Weekly Reporting: Prepare clear, structured weekly reports in English covering field visits, farmer relationships, negotiations, new suppliers and ongoing projects.
- Supply Chain Coordination: Work closely with the Supply Chain Manager to anticipate and address sourcing requirements, aligning procurement planning with harvest seasons, production schedules and evolving supply needs to ensure the timely availability of raw materials.
- Institutional and Professional Relationships: Develop and maintain strong working relationships with relevant national agricultural authorities and professional organizations, such as CPSF and KKPA, to facilitate collaboration, stay informed of industry developments and support the company’s sourcing activities.
- This is a hands-on, field-oriented position requiring frequent travel and direct contact with farmers throughout Cambodia.
Job Requirements
Languages:
- English - Good
- Khmer - Fluent
- Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Agricultural Business, Supply Chain Management or a related field. is preferred
- Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish trusting relationships with people from different backgrounds.
- Communication and Negotiation: Strong communication, listening and negotiation skills.
- English: Good spoken and written English, including the ability to prepare clear and professional weekly reports.
- Khmer: Fluency in Khmer to communicate and negotiate effectively with local farmers and stakeholders.
- Flexibility and Mobility: A high level of flexibility and availability, with a willingness to travel extensively throughout Cambodia and adapt working hours to the needs of farmers and agricultural activities.
- Autonomy and Initiative: A proactive, independent and practical approach to problem-solving, with the ability to make sound decisions in the field.
- Organization: Good organizational skills and the ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
- Interest in Agriculture: A genuine interest in agriculture, rural communities, sustainable farming practices and discovering new products.
- Knowledge of Cambodia’s rural environment and experience working with agricultural producers would be a significant advantage.
